Mentone, TX – A magnitude 3.4 earthquake shook an area 36 kilometers west-southwest of Mentone late Monday night. The tremor occurred at a depth of 8.7 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

According to the USGS, the earthquake struck just after midnight, at 12:54 a.m. UTC. Local residents in the area were quick to report light shaking through the USGS “Did You Feel It?” platform. So far, one report has been submitted, and more data is being collected.

Earthquakes of this magnitude are typically classified as minor. However, residents may still feel shaking depending on their proximity to the epicenter and the area’s geological conditions. The USGS urges individuals who experienced the quake to submit their observations online to help refine data.

While no significant damage or injuries have been reported, authorities continue to monitor the situation. Seismic events in Texas, though less frequent, are becoming more common, raising concerns about preparedness. If you felt the quake, experts recommend securing heavy items at home to minimize risks during future events.
