Lubbock, TX – A burst of spring warmth is sweeping through West Texas Friday, with forecast highs well above seasonal averages across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, temperatures on March 28 are expected to reach 83°F in Lubbock and Plainview, while Friona could top out at 84°F. Brownfield, Aspermont, and Childress are also forecast to reach the low 80s. These temperatures are several degrees warmer than typical late March highs.

The day begins with some low clouds and patchy fog across the region, though forecasters say visibility issues should improve around sunrise. Once the fog lifts, skies will turn mostly sunny, and a south-southwest wind of 5 to 15 mph will help drive up afternoon warmth.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and limit extended outdoor activity during the warmest part of the day, especially for those working outside.

Though no severe weather is expected Friday, the sudden heat may cause fatigue in vulnerable populations. Drivers should remain alert during early morning commutes due to reduced visibility in areas where fog lingers.

This unseasonably warm day is a notable contrast to March norms and may be one of the warmest days this month for the South Plains.
