Memphis, Tenn. – Scattered severe storms could bring 60+ mph winds and large hail to areas along and south of I-40 through 7 p.m. Monday, with the strongest impacts expected near Memphis, Jackson, and Dyersburg.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the greatest risk for damaging storms will occur between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. today, especially in regions classified under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) threat. Storms will move west to east, bringing bursts of strong wind, quarter-size hail, and the potential for isolated power outages.

Communities in Fayette, Hardeman, McNairy, and Shelby counties should prepare for sudden downpours and brief travel disruptions. High winds may impact drivers along I-40 and US-64, while rural roads could see temporary flooding. Outdoor events and construction zones should be monitored closely.

Officials recommend charging devices, securing outdoor furniture, and delaying unnecessary travel in high-risk zones. Although tornadoes are not the main threat, brief spin-ups can’t be ruled out.

The severe weather threat will diminish after sunset, but additional alerts may be issued if storm activity intensifies this evening.
