Grand Forks, ND – Freezing drizzle and light snow are expected to create dangerous travel conditions across west-central Minnesota and parts of North Dakota today. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for slippery roads, particularly along I-94 and Highway 10, where ice accumulation is possible. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds, allow extra travel time, and proceed with caution on untreated surfaces.
According to the National Weather Service, moisture moving into the region today will increase the likelihood of freezing drizzle. The greatest impacts are expected along major corridors, including I-94, with hazardous conditions lasting through Sunday morning. While not all areas will see precipitation, those that do could experience a thin glaze of ice on roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks.
Tonight, temperatures are forecast to rise slightly, with cloudy skies and a low around 21°F. Sunday will bring patchy fog in the morning, followed by cloudy skies and a high near 32°F. However, another system could bring a 50% chance of snow late Sunday night into Monday, further complicating travel with gusty northwest winds reaching up to 24 mph.
Looking ahead, Monday will remain blustery with patchy blowing snow and highs near 28°F before temperatures plummet to single digits Monday night. Tuesday and Wednesday offer some relief with mostly cloudy skies, though additional snowfall is possible midweek.
Residents and travelers should stay updated on the latest forecasts and advisories. The National Weather Service advises keeping an emergency kit in vehicles and checking local road conditions before heading out.
