Caribou, ME – A wave of cold air will settle over Maine today, bringing frigid temperatures and scattered snow showers across the Caribou area. Highs are expected to reach the low 30s this morning before plummeting into the teens and 20s by this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered snow showers will taper off by mid-morning, giving way to partly sunny skies. However, temperatures will continue to drop sharply throughout the day, with wind gusts reaching 20 mph in some areas. Residents are advised to dress warmly and drive cautiously on icy roads, particularly near Route 1 and other major routes.

Tonight will bring clear to partly cloudy skies, with overnight lows dipping to the single digits in northern areas and the teens Downeast. Brisk north winds will make it feel even colder, so outdoor activities should be limited.

The cold pattern continues into the weekend, as a low-pressure system developing off the Mid-Atlantic coast on Friday could bring light snow to eastern Maine late Friday night into Saturday. Highs on Friday will barely reach the low 20s, and Saturday’s highs will hover near the mid-20s. Overnight lows will drop into the single digits or below zero in some areas.

Looking ahead, Christmas week promises milder weather with highs in the mid-20s to low 30s by Monday and sunny skies. For those traveling, now is the time to prepare for icy roads and freezing temperatures through Sunday.

Stay tuned to local forecasts for updates on snow totals and temperatures as Maine prepares for a cold and brisk holiday weekend.
