Cleveland, OH – Rain showers and colder temperatures are on the way, impacting Thanksgiving plans across Northeast Ohio. Residents should prepare for heavy rain Wednesday, followed by lake effect snow through the weekend, with temperatures dropping into the 30s and 20s. Travelers, especially those using I-90, should stay alert for slick conditions and delays starting Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Wednesday will bring increasing rain chances throughout the day, followed by widespread showers into the night. Highs are expected to reach 46 degrees before dropping to the low 30s overnight. By Thursday morning, rain may transition to snow in some areas as a cold front moves in.
Lake effect snow will likely develop Thursday night, with significant accumulations expected in the snowbelt regions of Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph will reduce visibility on major roadways, including I-480 and I-271. The snow is expected to intensify Friday and linger through the weekend, potentially causing hazardous driving conditions.
The five-day forecast predicts highs near 45 on Wednesday before plummeting to 36 on Friday and 32 by Saturday. Overnight lows will drop into the 20s and teens, making frost and ice a concern for outdoor plans.
Residents should monitor updates from NWS and use caution when traveling, especially on Thanksgiving Day. Drivers are advised to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles and allow extra time for commutes.
