Quad Cities, IL – A strong rain system is moving through Illinois, bringing heavy rainfall and a risk of flooding. Rainfall totals of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected overnight, with some areas receiving up to 2 inches.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities, the frozen ground will increase runoff, leading to rising water levels in rivers and streams. Ice jams may also form, further worsening flood risks. Low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage are especially vulnerable.
Officials urge residents to stay alert and avoid driving through flooded roads. Those living near rivers should prepare for rising water levels.
Flood-prone communities should monitor weather updates and take precautions. The heaviest rainfall is expected to last into Friday morning.
