Northern California, CA – A major winter storm is expected to blanket parts of Northern California with heavy snow and dangerous winds through Saturday night. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning until 10 p.m. Saturday, urging residents to prepare for hazardous conditions.
Areas above 3,500 feet in the Shasta County mountains could see up to 24 inches of snow. In higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada and Southern Cascades, accumulations may reach 3 feet. Winds could gust up to 55 mph, potentially bringing down tree branches and creating near-zero visibility.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall is expected late Friday night into Saturday morning. Residents should avoid non-essential travel and keep a winter survival kit on hand if travel is necessary.
The storm is anticipated to make driving difficult or impossible in affected areas, including Burney, Chester, and Quincy. Officials recommend checking road conditions on Caltrans’ QuickMap site or by dialing 511.
