Pendleton, OR – A significant winter storm is set to impact the East Slopes of the Oregon Cascades, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected from Friday morning through late Sunday night. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, urging travelers to prepare for hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the Winter Storm Warning will take effect at 8 a.m. Friday and remain in place until 11 p.m. Sunday. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet are expected above 4,000 feet along the Cascade crest, while lower elevations could see up to 4 inches of snow. Winds may gust as high as 45 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

A separate Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. Thursday, with light snow showers expected to bring an additional 2 inches of accumulation.

The storm is expected to create treacherous travel conditions, particularly on US-20 over Santiam Pass. Drivers are advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Those who must travel should carry a winter storm kit, including tire chains, blankets, extra clothing, and emergency supplies.
