Washington State – Spokane residents should prepare for a mix of freezing fog and rain that could affect travel and visibility throughout the week. Starting Thursday, areas of freezing fog are expected, followed by an increase in cloud coverage and rain, especially toward the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing fog will begin overnight on Thursday, potentially creating icy road conditions by early Friday. Drivers on major routes, including I-90, should exercise caution and allow for extra travel time. Fog is expected to linger until mid-morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies with a high near 49°F. However, this reprieve will be short-lived as clouds and colder conditions move back in Friday night.
The weekend forecast brings rain likely across Spokane, with a 60% chance starting Saturday afternoon and extending into Veterans Day on Monday. Rain could be heavy at times, especially Saturday night, creating slick roads and limited visibility due to ongoing patchy fog. Temperatures will hover around 50°F during the day and dip to the low 30s at night.
Residents in higher elevations should also prepare for possible snow accumulation above 4,000 feet, with snow levels dropping to 3,300 feet by Monday night. Travel through mountain passes could be challenging, with snowy and icy roads adding to the weather-related hazards.
For Spokane residents, now is the time to secure outdoor items and plan accordingly for extended periods of low visibility and slick roads. Local officials advise keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, especially for those traveling long distances over the weekend.
