Seattle, WA – Mariners along the Strait of Juan de Fuca should prepare for rough conditions Thursday, as gale-force winds return to the region just hours after an earlier warning expires.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Gale Watch remains in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening for central U.S. waters of the Strait. West winds could reach sustained speeds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 35 knots, creating hazardous seas and visibility issues. The previous Gale Warning will expire at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Boaters, especially those operating smaller vessels, are advised to delay outings or seek shelter during the watch period. The combination of strong gusts and turbulent waters could capsize or damage inadequately prepared boats.

The Strait of Juan de Fuca, a key channel for commercial and recreational traffic, often sees rapidly changing marine conditions. Mariners are encouraged to monitor NOAA weather radio and consider alternate routes or delays.

More advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. The Gale Watch remains active until 11 p.m. Thursday unless extended.
