Spokane, WA – Temperatures across eastern Washington and north Idaho will soar into the triple digits beginning Sunday, prompting a widespread heat advisory through 9 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, high temperatures between 91 and 101°F are expected from the Okanogan Valley and Wenatchee Plateau to the Spokane metro and Idaho’s Palouse and Panhandle regions. The first round of extreme heat hits central Washington—including Omak, Twisp, and Leavenworth—starting Sunday at noon. By Monday, the advisory expands east into Spokane, Pullman, Coeur d’Alene, and Lewiston.
Communities including Brewster, Ritzville, Cheney, and Sandpoint will face two days of intense heat with overnight lows only dipping into the mid-60s—offering little relief. Combined with dry conditions and cold waterways, residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid sudden immersion in rivers or lakes, which can lead to shock.
Cooling centers may open in urban areas like Spokane and Lewiston. Authorities recommend staying indoors with air conditioning, hydrating frequently, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles.
The heat advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday, with potential for extended alerts if conditions persist.
