Spokane, WA – Temperatures are set to soar above 100°F across much of Eastern Washington and North Idaho starting Monday afternoon, with Spokane expected to reach 98°F and Coeur d’Alene not far behind. A heat advisory remains in effect from noon Monday to 9 p.m. Tuesday, bringing a heightened risk of heat-related illness.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, areas impacted include Bonners Ferry, Moscow, Spokane Valley, Sandpoint, and Post Falls, where highs will range between 91°F and 101°F. Cities along U.S. Highway 2 and Highway 95, including Newport, Hayden, and Kellogg, are also under the advisory.
The heat wave will especially affect those without access to air conditioning or shade. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during peak hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives. Despite the hot air, local rivers, lakes, and streams remain dangerously cold, posing a risk of shock to swimmers.
This marks one of the region’s first major heat events of the summer. Officials advise staying indoors during the afternoon heat and using cooling centers where available.
More advisories could follow if temperatures remain high or power outages occur. The current advisory ends Tuesday at 9 p.m., but relief may not arrive until late in the week.
