Spokane, WA – Sensitive plants could take a hit overnight as frost settles across parts of central Washington and north-central Idaho, with temperatures dipping to near 31°F before 9 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Frost Advisory is in effect from midnight through Tuesday morning for cities including Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Ephrata, Lewiston, and Clarkston. The advisory covers areas like the Lewiston Grade, Number 1 and 2 Canyons, and the Pangborn Airport zone.
Residents in affected areas are urged to take precautions to protect gardens, orchards, and outdoor potted plants. Even a few hours of sub-freezing temperatures can damage or kill sensitive vegetation. Covering plants or bringing them indoors is recommended.
The advisory spans key agricultural zones, including Chelan and Asotin counties, where early-spring planting is already underway. This could be the coldest night of the week, following unseasonably mild conditions earlier this month.
The frost risk ends by mid-morning Tuesday, but more advisories could be issued later this week if cold air lingers. Gardeners and growers should stay alert for additional updates.
