Spokane, WA – Residents will face one more day of significant heat Tuesday as temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-90s across Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. The intense conditions prompted a heat advisory for the region, urging the public to take precautions during the peak afternoon hours. This stretch of summer heat increases the risk for heat-related illnesses for those without access to adequate cooling.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, the Heat Advisory remains in place until 9 p.m. Tuesday. It covers a broad area that includes Spokane, Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, and Sandpoint. High temperatures in these inland areas may reach between 91 and 101 degrees. Officials are advising people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the direct sun. They also remind residents to check on relatives and neighbors who may be vulnerable to the heat.

A critical safety warning also notes that area lakes, rivers, and streams remain very cold. The stark difference between the air and water temperature can create dangerous conditions, including cold water shock for swimmers. The public should use extreme caution when attempting to cool off in natural water bodies.

A gradual cooling trend is set to begin on Wednesday, providing some relief from the early-week heatwave. Sunny skies will continue, but the high is expected to drop to a more comfortable 89 degrees. The pattern continues through the end of the workweek, with projected highs of 84 degrees on Thursday and 79 degrees on Friday. The pleasant weather is expected to hold through the weekend, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s.

  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 79°F.
