Friday Harbor, WA – A minor earthquake shook areas near Friday Harbor late Thursday, leaving some residents wondering if others felt the tremor.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 2.7 magnitude earthquake struck 11 kilometers west-southwest of Friday Harbor. Occurring around 4:00 p.m. PST at a depth of approximately 48.1 kilometers, the quake was shallow enough to be felt in some nearby areas.

The USGS encourages anyone who felt the tremor to report their experience through its “Did You Feel It?” platform, allowing scientists to gather critical data on local impact. So far, few reports have been submitted, and officials hope to expand their understanding of how far the vibrations were felt.

Even mild earthquakes can help scientists understand seismic activity patterns in the region, making local feedback valuable. Residents are urged to share details such as shaking intensity, duration, and any unusual sounds or movements.
