Spokane, WA – Drivers in Spokane are urged to exercise caution as black ice may form on untreated roads Saturday night into Sunday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Spokane has issued warnings about slick travel conditions as temperatures drop to near freezing. Key roadways, including Interstate 90 and outlying rural routes, may be especially hazardous.
According to the NWS, overnight lows are expected to hover around 30 degrees, with patchy black ice and freezing fog developing late Saturday. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds, leave extra space between vehicles, and watch for icy bridges and shaded areas. Pedestrians should also use care on untreated sidewalks.
Sunday’s forecast brings gradual clearing and mostly sunny skies, with highs reaching 38 degrees. However, foggy conditions are likely to return overnight into Monday, with lows dipping to 25 degrees. The pattern of freezing nights and foggy mornings is expected to persist into midweek, posing ongoing challenges for commuters.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast predicts patchy fog each morning through Thursday, followed by partly sunny afternoons with highs in the mid-30s. Monday will see a brief dip in temperatures, with highs struggling to reach 34 degrees. Calm winds throughout the week may exacerbate fog formation, particularly in low-lying areas.
Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for icy conditions by keeping an emergency kit in their vehicles. For the latest road conditions, visit the Washington Department of Transportation’s website.
