Washington, D.C. – Spotty rain will continue to dot the radar across the District through Tuesday evening, keeping roads damp and temperatures locked in the 40s during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, showers that shifted east earlier Tuesday are lingering along and east of the I-95 corridor, including downtown D.C., Arlington and Prince George’s County. Cloud cover remains widespread, preventing temperatures from climbing much beyond the low to mid-40s.
Drivers along I-395, I-295 and the Capital Beltway should expect slick pavement at times, especially during brief heavier bursts of rain later this afternoon. Metro riders may encounter slower traffic on area roadways feeding into park-and-ride lots as visibility dips in passing showers. While no widespread flooding is expected, ponding is possible in low-lying and poorly drained spots.
Residents should keep umbrellas handy through the evening and allow extra travel time. Temperatures will fall back into the upper 30s overnight, but roads are expected to remain just warm enough to prevent icing.
Additional updates are possible if rain becomes steadier before midnight.
