Washington, D.C. — Snow and ice are making travel dangerous across the D.C. metro area as a winter storm continues through Wednesday morning. With temperatures near freezing, road conditions could worsen, especially along I-95 and surrounding highways.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 AM Wednesday for portions of D.C., Maryland, and northern Virginia. Snowfall totals could reach 3 inches, with ice accumulation creating treacherous conditions, particularly south of D.C. Officials warn of a slippery morning commute, urging drivers to allow extra travel time.

By Wednesday afternoon, precipitation will transition from snow to rain, with highs reaching 35°F. Thursday is expected to bring milder temperatures, with highs near 51°F and mostly sunny skies.

Looking ahead to Valentine’s Weekend, Friday will be sunny with highs in the upper 30s, while another storm system could bring rain and snow by Saturday.

Drivers should check road conditions by dialing 511 and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles. Those traveling early Wednesday should exercise extreme caution on untreated surfaces.
