Washington, D.C. – Rain is filling back in across central Maryland Friday afternoon, creating slick travel conditions along some of the region’s busiest highways, including I-95 and the Capital Beltway.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, showers are increasing in coverage through the afternoon after a midday lull, with the most consistent rainfall expected through early evening. Heavier pockets are likely south of I-66 and U.S. 50, but steady light to moderate rain will impact the Baltimore-Washington corridor.

Drivers along I-95 from Baltimore to Washington, as well as I-495 and I-270, should expect slower travel and reduced visibility. The Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and I-83 into downtown Baltimore may also see ponding during heavier bursts.

Commuters are urged to allow extra time, keep headlights on, and avoid sudden braking on wet roads. Minor delays are possible across MARC and local transit routes.

Rain tapers later Friday night, though additional showers cannot be ruled out into early Saturday.
