Roanoke, VA – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia until 7 a.m. EST Thursday, as significant icing continues to create hazardous conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg, ice accumulations between 0.2 and 0.4 inches are expected in parts of northwest North Carolina, southwest and west-central Virginia, and southeastern West Virginia. In central and south-central Virginia, ice accumulations could reach 0.25 inches.
Impacts include:

• Treacherous road conditions, especially untreated surfaces.
• Dangerous travel during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.
Residents should avoid travel if possible. If driving is necessary, authorities urge caution, keeping extra food, water, and a flashlight in vehicles.
Areas including Roanoke, Lynchburg, Blacksburg, Boone, and Lewisburg are expected to face the most significant impacts. The snow from Tuesday’s systemhas worsened road conditions north of the Roanoke River.
