Blacksburg, VA – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for portions of southwest Virginia and southeast West Virginia from Saturday morning through Sunday evening, as excessive rainfall and melting snow could lead to flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, affected areas include Tazewell County in Virginia, as well as Mercer, Monroe, Summers, and Greenbrier Counties in West Virginia. Rainfall totals of one to two inches are expected, which, combined with existing snowpack, could result in rapid snowmelt and rising water levels in rivers and streams.

Low-lying and flood-prone areas may experience flooding as runoff increases. Officials warn that excessive water flow could impact roads, creeks, and other waterways, potentially making travel hazardous.

Residents in flood-prone locations should stay updated on forecasts and be prepared to take action if flooding develops. The National Weather Service advises monitoring alerts and checking local emergency management updates.
