ANNANDALE, VA – A strong cold front is set to sweep through Northern Virginia, ushering in freezing temperatures and gusty winds this weekend. Rain today will transition to a dry but colder pattern starting Saturday, with wind chills expected to dip into the 20s.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered rain will persist through Friday evening, accompanied by breezy conditions along the I-95 corridor. Highs today will reach the mid-40s before dropping sharply tonight, with lows near 31 degrees.
By Saturday, strong high pressure will dominate the region, bringing mostly sunny skies but bitterly cold conditions. Daytime highs will hover around 36 degrees, while gusty northwest winds could reach speeds of 25 mph, adding to the chill. Nighttime temperatures are expected to plunge into the lower 20s.
Sunday will remain sunny but cold, with highs in the upper 30s and overnight lows dropping to a frigid 16 degrees. Conditions will remain dry through early next week, with slightly warmer highs near 41 degrees by Tuesday. However, a new cold front could bring rain showers by midweek.
Drivers are urged to prepare for potential icy patches, particularly on bridges and overpasses during the early morning hours. Keep winter gear handy and ensure vehicles are ready for cold-weather travel.
