Blacksburg, VA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of southwest Virginia as snow and freezing temperatures dominate the forecast. Snowfall tapered off at midnight, leaving accumulations of 2 to 4 inches across the region. Residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions, with icy bridges and roads persisting into Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will remain active until 7 a.m. Saturday. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and use caution on slick roadways, particularly on major routes like Interstate 81 and Route 460. The weekend will bring clearing skies but frigid air, with highs only reaching 30 degrees Saturday and lows dropping to 19 degrees overnight.

Sunday will offer some relief with sunny skies and a high of 38 degrees. However, temperatures will plummet to 15 degrees Sunday night. The cold trend continues Monday with a slight chance of snow or rain showers before skies clear. Highs are forecasted at 40 degrees Monday, followed by another bitterly cold night with a low of 15 degrees.

Looking ahead, sunny but brisk conditions dominate Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs of 24 and 27 degrees, respectively. Residents should take precautions to prevent frostbite or hypothermia by bundling up and limiting outdoor exposure.

Travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions and stay updated with the latest forecasts. Report snowfall totals to the National Weather Service to assist with ongoing analysis.
