Virginia Beach, Virginia – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to roll into the Virginia Beach area by late Wednesday afternoon, raising concerns over gusty winds and outdoor safety.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, scattered storms are expected after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with gusts topping 22 mph and a 20% chance of precipitation. While rainfall amounts are expected to remain light, wind could become the main hazard, especially during stronger cells developing between 4 and 6 p.m. across southeastern Virginia, including key stretches of I-264 and U.S. Route 58.

Though storms may be isolated, residents should charge devices, secure outdoor furniture, and avoid boating or beach activity late in the day. The strongest thunderstorms could result in downed limbs or brief power outages.

Looking ahead, summer-like warmth returns Thursday and Friday, with high temperatures reaching 86°F and 87°F, respectively. Another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible Friday afternoon into Friday night, followed by unsettled conditions through the weekend. Rain chances hold around 50% on both Saturday and Sunday.

This brief lull in storm activity early Wednesday will give way to more moisture and instability later in the week. Residents should monitor updates and plan ahead for outdoor events.

Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in effect across southeast Virginia through Sunday.
