Roanoke, Va. – Temperatures across southwest Virginia will climb steadily into the mid-80s by Friday, with cities like Roanoke, Danville and Lynchburg all reaching highs of 86°F as humidity rises and storm chances loom.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Wednesday will bring widespread highs in the low-to-mid 80s across the region—85°F in South Boston and Lexington, 83°F in Reidsville and Danville—before a minor dip Thursday and a stronger warm-up Friday. By then, Roanoke, Blacksburg, and surrounding areas could see some of the warmest conditions of the season so far.
Thursday will stay slightly cooler, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s—just 77°F in Boone, 79°F in South Boston, and 80°F in Bluefield. However, by Friday, nearly the entire region is expected to reach at least 84°F, with localized hot spots near the North Carolina border.
With increasing temperatures, the NWS says the risk for afternoon showers and storms will grow Friday into Saturday as a frontal boundary approaches. Residents should monitor for any lightning or downburst activity and avoid outdoor plans during peak heating hours.
More updates will follow as the weekend storm pattern develops.
