Richmond, VA – Showers are moving into southern and eastern Virginia today, with heavier rain expected along and south of I-64 from this afternoon into Friday morning. Cities including Norfolk, Emporia, and Elizabeth City could see rain totals up to 1 inch, with isolated higher amounts not ruled out.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, showers will persist through tonight and into Friday morning, especially in areas across southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Northern regions from Louisa to Salisbury are likely to see little or no rain.

Most locations across central and southeastern Virginia—such as Petersburg, Williamsburg, and Franklin—can expect between 0.25 and 0.50 inches of rain. Roadways like I-95 and U.S. 58 may become slick during evening commutes, especially in South Hill and Windsor.

High temperatures across the southern half of the state will remain in the 70s due to cloud cover and rainfall. Drivers are urged to reduce speed on wet roads and ensure windshield wipers are in working order. Power outages are not expected, but localized ponding could impact rural low-lying areas.

Showers are expected to taper off by Friday morning. More updates are likely if rainfall intensifies or shifts northward.
