Richmond, Va. – Morning commuters across central and eastern Virginia could face dangerously reduced visibility as patchy fog blankets roads until 9 a.m. Monday. Areas from Louisa and Richmond to Williamsburg and Emporia are waking up to thick mist that could impact travel and school routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, fog began forming before sunrise across the Piedmont and Coastal Plain, prompting alerts for drivers to use low-beam headlights and expect sudden visibility drops. The advisory includes major roadways such as I-64, Route 460, and sections of I-95.
Visibility may drop below a quarter-mile in localized spots, especially in rural and low-lying areas. Parents are urged to use extra caution near school bus stops, and drivers should slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and avoid high beams that can reflect light and worsen glare.
Cities affected include Richmond, Hopewell, Petersburg, Franklin, and Colonial Heights, with impacts extending into southeastern North Carolina towns like Ahoskie and Windsor.
The fog is expected to dissipate by 9 a.m., but residual dampness may linger on roads. Another weather update is expected if conditions change. Motorists should stay alert for continuing advisories through the morning.
