Blacksburg, Virginia – Rain showers and a few isolated thunderstorms may dampen parts of southern Virginia today, particularly along and south of the Highway 460 corridor, where localized downpours could cause minor travel delays.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, scattered showers will continue through Tuesday evening, with a marginal risk for thunderstorms primarily in counties such as Wythe, Carroll, and Pittsylvania. Rainfall totals will generally remain light—mostly under a quarter inch—but isolated pockets near Danville could see up to 0.5 inches.

The greatest chance for thunder is expected in the afternoon hours, especially closer to the North Carolina border. While the risk of severe weather remains low, a strong storm with gusty winds or brief heavy rain can’t be ruled out in the southernmost counties.

Drivers along U.S. 460 and adjacent routes should watch for slick conditions, especially during the evening commute. Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts and avoid driving through ponding on rural roadways.

Showers will taper off later tonight, with drier conditions expected by Wednesday morning. The NWS may issue additional advisories if storm potential increases.
