Norfolk, VA – Severe weather could affect much of Virginia this afternoon, with the potential for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service, the most severe conditions are expected from noon to 5 p.m. today, as a cold front moves through the region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are predicted, with the possibility of damaging wind gusts reaching over 60 mph and isolated tornadoes.

The eastern and southeastern parts of the state, including Norfolk, Elizabeth City, and Richmond, are at risk of flash flooding, especially in flood-prone areas. Heavy rain could accumulate up to 1-2 inches, and slow-moving storms may produce localized flooding.

In addition to the rainfall, temperatures in northern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia could reach the 70s, enhancing storm instability. Residents are urged to stay informed and take precautions, especially in flood-prone regions. Currently, no formal weather alerts have been issued, but the storm’s unpredictable nature requires vigilance.
