According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms will develop Friday afternoon, with the strongest storms expected between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. The risk includes large hail, gusty winds up to 60 mph, and a few isolated tornadoes. A Marginal Risk for localized flash flooding is also in place due to heavy downpours.
