Harrisburg, Pa. – Rain is returning to the Mid-Atlantic Tuesday as a low-pressure system lifts out of the Tennessee Valley, bringing steady showers across multiple states into Wednesday morning.
According to the Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, rainfall totals are expected to reach 1 to 1.5 inches from southern Pennsylvania through Virginia, with locally higher amounts possible. The heaviest rain will fall late Tuesday into early Wednesday, primarily impacting central Virginia, southern Maryland, and parts of south-central Pennsylvania.
Despite the widespread rainfall, river flooding is not anticipated at forecast points tracked by MARFC. However, drivers should expect ponding on roadways and slower commutes, especially during morning and evening rush hours. Areas along I-95 and I-81 may see reduced visibility and slick surfaces.
Residents are advised to monitor local updates, check storm drains for debris, and avoid driving through standing water. This system follows a dry weekend and marks the region’s first widespread rain event in over a week.
Rain is expected to taper off from west to east by late Wednesday, with no additional flood watches currently in effect. Further updates will be issued if rainfall rates exceed forecast thresholds.
