Blacksburg, VA – A powerful winter storm brought significant snowfall to Virginia and southeast West Virginia, with some areas seeing over a foot of accumulation. The heaviest snow fell in the Alleghany Highlands and parts of southeast West Virginia, creating hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg, snowfall totals from February 11 to February 12 indicate widespread accumulations of 6 to 12 inches. Higher elevations received the most snow, impacting travel and daily routines.

Road crews have been working to clear highways, but icy conditions persist in many areas. Officials urge drivers to use caution, especially on untreated roads. Schools and businesses have reported closures and delays due to treacherous conditions.

Residents are encouraged to report snowfall amounts through the NWS website to help refine forecasts. The storm has moved out, but lingering cold temperatures may lead to refreezing overnight.

Authorities recommend limiting travel, dressing warmly, and checking for weather updates. Warmer conditions are expected later in the week, which may help melt accumulated snow.
