Western Highland, VA – Snow and high winds will sweep through Western Highland County Thursday, prompting a winter weather advisory. The storm is expected to last until 1 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, the area will receive between 2 to 4 inches of snow. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, especially along ridgelines. Snowfall began early Thursday morning and will continue throughout the day, potentially creating hazardous driving conditions during the evening commute.

The storm will shift to lighter, intermittent snow showers Thursday evening before tapering off overnight. Officials advise motorists to slow down and use caution, as roads will likely become slippery.

Temperatures in the region will hover around the mid-20s throughout the day, dropping to the teens by nightfall. Wind chill values could make it feel significantly colder, adding to the storm’s impact.

Emergency officials encourage residents to stay updated on road conditions by dialing 511. Those traveling should plan for possible delays and ensure their vehicles are equipped with winter essentials.

The National Weather Service also warns of potential power outages due to high winds and heavy, wet snow. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible disruptions.

As the snowstorm progresses, officials recommend minimizing unnecessary travel and taking precautions to stay safe. The advisory will remain in effect until early Friday morning.
