Roanoke, Va. – Damaging wind gusts and small hail may hit parts of western Virginia through Friday night, with scattered strong storms once again threatening areas west of the Blue Ridge.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a marginal risk for severe weather remains in effect through Friday, May 2. Storms could bring gusts over 60 mph and quarter-size hail, especially in regions including Wytheville, Blacksburg, and Roanoke. The greatest threat is expected during the late afternoon and evening hours each day.
Communities in the marginal risk zone should prepare for brief but intense storm activity. Localized power outages are possible due to downed branches or power lines, and drivers may encounter sudden low visibility or debris on roads. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of thunderstorm activity.
A stronger cold front is expected to arrive Saturday, bringing another round of potentially severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center notes that additional hazards may develop with that system, though details are still being refined.
Warnings remain in place through Friday evening, with updates expected as Saturday’s front approaches.
