Richmond, Va. – Drivers across central and southeastern Virginia, including the Richmond metro area, are facing dangerous travel conditions this morning as dense fog blankets the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday for more than a dozen counties, including Goochland, Caroline, Dinwiddie, and Prince George, as well as parts of northeast North Carolina like Northampton. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less, making highways and rural roads especially risky during the morning commute.
Low-lying areas and river valleys—particularly along I-95, U.S. 460, and Route 360—may experience the thickest fog. Local officials urge motorists to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra following distance. The fog may lift gradually through mid-morning as temperatures rise.
This is the third fog advisory issued in Virginia this spring, underscoring the pattern of humid, stagnant morning air affecting inland counties. Travelers should check 511Virginia or local DOT apps for real-time road updates.
Visibility should improve after 10 a.m., but commuters are advised to remain cautious until all advisories expire.
