Fairfax, VA – Virginia residents are bracing for a bitter cold weekend following a snowy and icy start to Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service reports that snowfall and freezing rain, which began Friday evening, will taper off by 7 a.m. Saturday. Slick and icy roads are expected to persist through the morning, especially on bridges and overpasses. Drivers should exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
Saturday will see gradual clearing by mid-morning, with temperatures reaching a high of 35°F. Winds could gust up to 31 mph, adding to the chill. Sunday promises sunshine but will remain cold, with highs near 36°F and lows dropping into the teens overnight.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will bring mostly sunny skies, with daytime highs ranging from 28°F to 40°F. Nights will be frigid, with temperatures plummeting to the low teens.
Residents are advised to take precautions against the cold, including dressing in layers and ensuring pets are sheltered. Be prepared for icy conditions on sidewalks and driveways, and check on neighbors who may need assistance.
