Richmond, VA – Residents across Virginia are preparing for significant snowfall and hazardous travel conditions as a winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Areas north of Interstate 64 could see between 4 and 8 inches of snow, while central regions anticipate totals ranging from 2 to 5 inches, accompanied by ice accumulations.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the storm will deliver heavy mixed precipitation, creating treacherous road conditions throughout the state. Snowfall is expected to heavily impact Monday’s morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds up to 30 mph in some areas, such as Accomack County, may further reduce visibility and complicate travel.
Residents are advised to take precautions if travel is necessary, including carrying emergency supplies such as a flashlight, food, and water. State officials encourage drivers to monitor road conditions by calling 511 or using online resources.
The storm is also projected to bring significant snowfall to parts of Maryland, with some regions expecting up to 12 inches. Preparations are underway in Dorchester, Somerset, and Worcester counties, which are under similar warnings.
Virginia’s Department of Transportation is working to clear roads, but officials urge caution and preparedness during the storm’s duration.
