Virginia Braces for Snowfall, Up to 3 Inches Expected Through Saturday Morning

Blacksburg, VA – A winter weather advisory has been issued for Mercer and Summers counties, warning residents of up to three inches of snowfall and gusty winds as high as 35 mph. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, remains in effect from 7 a.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow is expected to create slippery road conditions, posing risks during Friday’s morning and evening commutes. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and prepare for hazardous travel conditions.

The advisory includes the cities of Hix, Bluefield, Hinton, and Flat Top, where residents are urged to stay updated on weather conditions and plan ahead. For the latest road conditions, travelers can call 511.

Authorities recommend checking emergency supplies, including flashlights, blankets, and food, in case of disruptions caused by the winter storm.
