Blacksburg, VA – Residents across western Virginia should prepare for another frigid day on Friday as a cold front sweeps through. Low temperatures will hover in the teens overnight, with daytime highs struggling to reach 30 degrees. Relief is on the way, though, with a significant warming trend expected starting this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Friday’s cold front will bring calm winds and sunny skies, but temperatures will remain well below freezing until the afternoon. Motorists along I-81 are advised to exercise caution due to the possibility of black ice during early morning commutes.

Saturday will begin to moderate, with highs climbing to the upper 30s. By Sunday, temperatures will hit the low 40s—finally reaching seasonal averages. The warming trend continues into early next week, with Monday’s high expected to reach 42 degrees and Tuesday surpassing 45 degrees.

No precipitation is forecast over the next seven days, making this an excellent opportunity for outdoor activities. However, residents in the higher elevations, particularly along the western slopes, should remain aware of colder-than-expected conditions at night.

The gradual temperature increase is welcome news after an unusually cold week. Stay updated on the latest forecasts at weather.gov or through local alerts to plan your weekend activities.
