Norfolk, VA – A winter storm warning remains in effect across southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, with heavy snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield, VA, snowfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are forecast in Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach, with localized bay effect snow showers persisting through late Wednesday morning. In northeastern North Carolina, areas such as Pasquotank and Currituck counties may see up to 6 inches of snow by 7 a.m.

The warning extends through 1 p.m. Wednesday in Virginia and until 7 a.m. in North Carolina. Commuters are advised to plan for slippery road conditions, especially during Wednesday’s morning rush hour.

Residents are urged to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, if travel is necessary. For road conditions, Virginia drivers can call 511, while North Carolina travelers can visit DriveNC.gov.

Localized impacts, including reduced visibility and icy surfaces, are anticipated. Officials recommend avoiding nonessential travel until the storm subsides and roadways are cleared.
