Richmond, VA – A significant winter storm is expected to impact Virginia and northeastern North Carolina on Wednesday and Thursday, bringing heavy snowfall and potential icing. Areas south of I-64 and east of I-95 are forecasted to receive the most snow, with some locations seeing more than six inches.

According to the National Weather Service Wakefield, the storm will develop Wednesday as low pressure moves northeast along the coast, with the heaviest snowfall occurring Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday. Some areas in northeastern North Carolina could experience icing, increasing travel hazards.

Snowfall estimates show 4 to 6 inches for much of central and southeastern Virginia, with localized areas possibly seeing 8 inches or more. Travel conditions are expected to be difficult to impossible at times, particularly during the storm’s peak.

Residents are advised to prepare for hazardous road conditions and monitor further forecasts as snow amounts may shift. Winter Storm Watches are likely to be issued later this afternoon.
