Wakefield, VA – Portions of Virginia and North Carolina are under a Winter Weather Advisory as snow and ice are expected late Friday night through Saturday afternoon. The advisory warns of up to two inches of snow and one-tenth of an inch of ice.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory will remain in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday. Areas including Pasquotank, Camden, and Virginia Beach could experience slippery road conditions and limited visibility during this period.
Residents are advised to avoid nonessential travel, as the combination of snow and ice could make roads dangerous. In North Carolina, drivers can check road conditions at DriveNC.gov, while Virginia travelers should call 511 for updates.
For Maryland and other regions in southeast Virginia, snowfall amounts are expected to range from 1 to 3 inches. The heaviest accumulation is likely in Maryland Beaches County and areas near the Virginia-Maryland border.
The NWS urges travelers to slow down and use extreme caution when driving. Ice accumulation can lead to black ice, particularly on bridges and overpasses, increasing the risk of accidents.
Temperatures are expected to remain near freezing, worsening icy conditions overnight and into Saturday morning. Local authorities suggest preparing for potential delays and having an emergency kit ready in vehicles.
