Sioux Falls, SD – Dry air and gusty winds are creating very high fire danger across South Dakota today, prompting safety warnings. Temperatures will reach the mid-40s with winds gusting up to 40 mph, intensifying the risk of uncontrolled fires.
According to the National Weather Service, fire danger is especially high near Buffalo Ridge and areas of southwestern Minnesota. A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and to secure loose materials that could ignite in strong winds.
The week ahead looks mild, with highs reaching 51 degrees Tuesday and 53 degrees Thursday. Sunny skies and calmer winds are forecast starting Wednesday, providing relief from hazardous conditions. Overnight lows will dip into the low 20s, increasing frost risks for outdoor plants.
Those in affected areas should monitor weather updates and prepare for fire safety precautions. With conditions unlikely to improve significantly until later this week, vigilance is key.
