Burlington, VT – Snow continues to blanket northern Vermont and portions of New York, creating hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the advisory, snowfall totals will range from 3 to 7 inches, with some localized areas receiving higher amounts. Gusting winds of up to 30 mph will create blowing snow, reducing visibility to less than a mile at times. These conditions are expected to make travel challenging, particularly during the morning commute.
Areas affected include southeastern St. Lawrence, southern Franklin, and western Clinton counties in New York, along with central and northern Vermont. Towns such as Swanton, Newport, and Stowe are among those experiencing sharp snowfall gradients, with higher accumulations in elevated areas.
The heaviest snow has peaked, but steady snowfall will continue throughout Wednesday morning. A mix of icy roads and reduced visibility could persist, causing delays and potential accidents. Residents are advised to use caution and allow extra time for travel.
The National Weather Service recommends slowing down and staying informed on road conditions. Vermont drivers can check updates at New England 511, while New York residents can visit 511NY.
Temperatures will remain cold, keeping snow on the ground through the afternoon. Meteorologists anticipate improving conditions by evening as snow tapers off.
