Montpelier, VT – Snow and ice are expected to impact portions of Vermont and northern New York starting this afternoon, creating dangerous travel conditions for evening and morning commutes. Drivers are urged to slow down and plan for delays as winter weather returns to the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. today until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with a light glaze of ice possible. Conditions will worsen between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. as snow spreads rapidly, making evening travel hazardous on roads like Interstate 89 and US Route 2.

Roads are expected to become slick, with reduced visibility in areas of steady snowfall. Commuters should use caution, especially during peak travel hours. The snow will transition to a wintry mix overnight and linger into Tuesday morning, affecting school and work commutes.

By Tuesday afternoon, precipitation will taper off, leaving partly cloudy skies and colder temperatures. The midweek forecast calls for drier conditions, with highs in the 30s.

Stay updated by checking local forecasts and calling 511 for real-time road conditions. Be prepared for changing weather and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snow hours.
