Burlington, VT – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for northern Vermont, including Franklin, Lamoille, and eastern Chittenden counties, through Wednesday evening. Snowfall and gusting winds will create hazardous travel conditions, especially during morning and evening commutes.
The National Weather Service predicts total snow accumulations between 3 and 8 inches, with the heaviest snowfall expected between 4 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts could reach up to 35 mph, significantly reducing visibility in blowing snow. Drivers on I-89 and local highways are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and prepare for slippery conditions.
According to the NWS, temperatures will remain in the teens through Wednesday night, with wind chills dipping as low as -6°F. These conditions could also make untreated surfaces like sidewalks and driveways dangerously icy. Pedestrians are advised to proceed cautiously to avoid injury.
Looking ahead, Thursday may bring lingering snow showers with highs near 23°F. Friday and Saturday will see mostly cloudy skies, with daytime temperatures climbing into the mid-20s and winds becoming lighter.
Residents should monitor weather updates and road conditions at New England 511 for Vermont and 511 NY for New York. Officials recommend staying indoors during the worst of the weather and ensuring vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies.
