Brattleboro, Vermont – Torrential rain could drench parts of southern Vermont through early Tuesday, with Brattleboro expected to see up to 3 inches by morning—raising concerns for localized flooding and travel disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a sharp precipitation gradient is forming as an upper-level low presses into the region, delivering significant rainfall to the south while leaving northern areas nearly dry. Rainfall totals are expected to top 2 inches in towns like Brattleboro, Springfield, and Bennington, while locations near the Canadian border—including Newport and St. Albans—may receive just 0.05 inches or less.

Cities like Rutland, Manchester, and Middlebury are in line for moderate rainfall, ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 inches. Commuters along I-91 and U.S. Route 7 should prepare for standing water, reduced visibility, and slippery roads during the Monday evening and early Tuesday drive.

Residents are urged to clear storm drains, avoid flooded roadways, and monitor local alerts. While widespread flooding is not expected, urban and poor-drainage areas could experience brief inundation, especially in low-lying zones.

Rain is expected to taper off by mid-morning Tuesday, but forecasters warn that another round of showers could return later in the week. Stay tuned to NWS Burlington for updates.
