Burlington, VT – A powerful winter storm is on track to hit Burlington late Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing heavy snow followed by a dangerous wintry mix. Drivers should prepare for slick roads, reduced visibility, and possible black ice, especially on I-89 and Route 7.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin early Thursday morning and intensify throughout the day. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected before the snow transitions into freezing rain by the afternoon. High temperatures will reach 37°F, but strong south winds of 14 to 17 mph will make travel even more challenging. By Thursday night, drizzle and freezing rain could continue, increasing the risk of icy conditions.
Wednesday will be sunny but bitterly cold, with a high near 18°F and wind chills making it feel closer to zero. Wednesday night will bring clear skies and temperatures plummeting to 5°F before the storm arrives.
Friday morning, lingering snow showers and freezing rain could make for a hazardous commute. However, conditions will improve throughout the day as skies turn partly sunny and temperatures climb to 29°F. Friday night will be mostly cloudy, with lows dropping to 13°F.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will be partly sunny with a high of 26°F, while Sunday brings similar conditions with highs near 30°F. While no major storms are currently in the forecast beyond Friday, residents should remain vigilant as winter weather patterns continue to shift.
Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, allow extra time for travel, and stay updated on road conditions. Keep an eye on weather alerts and have an emergency kit ready in case of delays.
