Burlington, VT – Heavy rainfall expected over the next two days could lead to flooding concerns in central and southern Vermont. A Flood Watch has been issued for Orange, Rutland, and Windsor counties from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, between 1.5 to 3 inches of rain is expected between Thursday night and Saturday night, with higher totals possible in localized areas. This rainfall, combined with already high streamflows, could result in minor flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying, flood-prone locations.

Flooding is possible in areas like Bradford, Rutland, Bethel, and Springfield. Roads near rivers and streams may become impassable, and water could quickly accumulate in normally dry areas. Localized flooding may impact schools, businesses, and outdoor events.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen. Those living in flood-prone areas should have an emergency kit ready, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay alert for further updates or possible flood warnings.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through Saturday evening, with additional warnings likely if flooding conditions develop. For more information on flood safety, visit weather.gov/safety/flood.
